Celebrity Diet Lowdown: JLo's $455 Meal Plan

By , SparkPeople Blogger
In its Sept. 8 issue, Woman's World magazine details how Jennifer Lopez got her figure back just four months after giving birth to twins.
Part of her slim-down plan was training for a triathlon (she'll compete for charity in one next month), and she likely had some help on the nutrition front, too.
She is rumored to be using a meal-delivery service called Freshology, which has several specialized (and pricey) meal plans, including a plan called "Fresh Mommy." (That one costs $65 a day!)
According to Freshology, the Fresh Mommy plan includes:
  • 28 days
  • 5 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack & dessert)
  • Calorie correct for stage of life (pre-natal, breast-feeding or weight loss)
  • Premium ingredients
  • Featuring all-natural, organic and sustainable ingredients wherever possible
  • Partner's dinner & dessert available for only $10.00

Now back to her size 6 figure, Lopez lost more than 50 pounds in just four months. While Jenny from the Block's results are far beyond average and her $455 a week plan is beyond our means, her plan does offer some tips that everyday people can use.

  • She's eating five mini meals a day.

Eating smaller meals throughout the day helps prevent those "crashes" that come when blood sugar dips. Frequent meals also help ward off hunger and keep you from overeating later.

dailySpark tip: Try adding low-calorie snacks in the afternoon if you tend to overeat at lunch. If you're starving by lunchtime, maybe you need a midmorning snack.

  • She's getting 25% of her calories from protein.

Protein takes longer to digest and therefore keeps you feeling fuller longer. Many people trying to lose weight steer clear of meats, eggs and nuts because they can be high in fat, but there are plenty of sources of lean protein to add to every meal. SparkPeople recommends you get 10%-35% of your calories from protein.

dailySpark tip: Make sure you're eating lean protein at every meal. Cook up some egg whites, grab a handful of nuts for a snack, and throw some lean turkey on your salad. You'll quiet that rumbling tummy for hours.

  • She's eating more than 1,200 calories a day.

Eating fewer than 1,200 calories (for women) puts you in what SparkPeople calls "starvation mode." To compensate, your metabolism will slow down considerably, making it very difficult (or impossible) for you to lose weight. In this state, your body will preferentially burn everything but your stored body fat.

dailySpark tip: Though it sounds counterintuitive, eating fewer calories can adversely affect your weight loss. Making sure you're eating enough calories is as important as making sure you're not eating too many.

If money were no object, would you try an at-home meal service? Have you?
