At SparkPeople, we love helping people accomplish big goals—but we believe it's equally important to celebrate the small successes along the way. Each week in the Spark Spotlight, we'll check in with a featured member about his or her proudest moments, biggest challenges and advice for others on living, thinking and feeling healthier. We hope these quick snapshots will help motivate you to keep moving steadily toward your own goals, week by week. This Week's Spotlight: Fredielyn (MARINGAL) Age: 64 Location: Marin County, California Occupation: Interior Designer Fredielyn's Small Success of the Week"Taking the tiny moments of appreciation and gratitude of the hard work it takes to continually make my life the way I want it to be. Accepting that sometimes I truly have no control over the outcome of life’s lessons. Walking with grace, holding my head up high and living life to the fullest."What’s your overall goal and how is SparkPeople helping you? To never stop looking at the horizon. In other words, keep on going forward, doing what I believe, walking the talk, showing up when I say I will and living always with integrity, dignity and grace. SparkPeople has taught me that we all struggle, no matter how close to perfect our lives can be. It is how we deal with our struggles that counts. I don’t believe that diets, walking thousands of steps a day and counting calories will be the answer to weight loss. It is changing your lifestyle completely: spiritually, mentally, emotionally and physically…in that order. Then weight loss will happen once your life is on track. It takes work and friends in Spark who "get it," who can help guide you to the right path to live life to the fullest. What’s your biggest challenge right now? To not overfill my days. I am a doer, not a talker. I do what I say, so if I say I am going to accomplish something, that is what I will do. What advice do you have for someone who just joined SparkPeople? I would tell that someone that dieting won’t work, and neither will running to the gym five times a week to lose weight. It is changing your lifestyle. If you live in turmoil, how do you expect to lose weight in a world of chaos? You need to learn how to deal with emotional upsets without running to the refrigerator, grabbing food hoping to numb yourself. If you have harmed someone with your words, make amends. If you gossip, stop. If you live for drama, don’t. Clean up your clutter. Change your life, and becoming healthy will follow. Want to be the next small success we spotlight?
