Spark Spotlight: Robin (RASAYLOR)

By , SparkPeople Blogger
At SparkPeople, we love helping people accomplish big goals—but we believe it's equally important to celebrate the small successes along the way. Each week in the Spark Spotlight, we'll check in with a featured member about his or her proudest moments, biggest challenges and advice for others on living, thinking and feeling healthier. We hope these quick snapshots will help motivate you to keep moving steadily toward your own goals, week by week.

This Week's Spotlight: Robin (RASAYLOR)
Age: 28
Location: Morgan City, Louisiana

Small Success of the Week

Robin has gone from barely walking six months ago to walking a lot more now, while also cutting down her time for a 5K by about two and a half minutes. She's also celebrating a loss of 14 pounds since January, which will help her reach her ultimate goal!

What's your overall goal?

My overall goal isn't actually weight loss, however, it includes needing to lose weight. I actually started my weigh-loss journey due to fertility issues, which is a very sensitive subject but I guess someone has to open up about it.

How is SparkPeople helping you get there?

The motivation and success stories from other users! Facebook tears you down so much because it makes you want to compare yourself to others, but here, everyone is happy! They all want you to succeed and that has really helped me to keep going. It also helps me keep accountable. Those daily reminders of "Hey! [It's] time to track your breakfast" or "It's awful late to track your lunch" [ensures that] I track those calories and stay on track [with] water and exercise.

What's your biggest challenge right now?

I'd have to say my biggest challenge at the moment is seeing the bigger picture. I want to be the hare, but the tortoise always wins the race. When things don't happen immediately, I get frustrated easily, so this journey has not been an easy one. Six months in and it's still hard to stay motivated, even seeing the results.

What advice do you have for someone who just joined SparkPeople today?

I would say turn to your peers; your peers have advice for you. If you look at the Community Goal Feed, everyone posts positive messages on a daily basis. If you're having a down day, tell someone! They can help you to put things into perspective.
