8 Breast Cancer Awareness Products That Actually Give Back

8 Brands Giving Back to Raise Breast Cancer Awareness

By: Elizabeth Lowry

What began in 1985 as a way for the American Cancer Society and pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca to bring awareness to mammography for early breast cancer detection, Breast Cancer Awareness Month has grown into something of a cultural phenomenon, with everything from bags of carrots to athletic socks sporting the ubiquitous pink ribbon.

Although you might think that any pink purchase is helping the cause, this isn't always the case. Some companies simply ride the pink ribbon coattails, giving little, if any, money back to charity. If you want to make your purchases count this month, be sure to read the fine print: Does the product clearly state what percentage of the proceeds are being donated? Is there a cap on the amount of money a company is willing to donate? What organization will get the donations and what will they do with them?

The following products serve double-duty: helping you achieve your healthy living goals while giving back to a cause that affects so many.

Groove Life Silicone Ring

Lifting weights and swinging kettlebells can wreak havoc on your rings or cause them to leave painful callouses on your skin, which is why a lot of people opt to wear silicone rings while working out. Purchase this pink and white edition and Groove Life will donate 20 percent of the ring's proceeds to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
