Eating Healthy at Burger King
From SparkPeople’s Editors
Burger King is known for its flame-broiled burgers, especially the Whopper. Though its signature burger packs quite a caloric punch, the King has plenty of healthy choices. We've scanned the menu to find meals that won't cost a king's ransom in calories and fat.
- This is definitely a restaurant where smaller is better--the Whopper Jr and Hamburger without mayo are the best choices with 290 calories, 12 g fat and 500 mg of sodium. Larger sandwiches like the Whopper (without mayo) can almost double that amount--with 520 calories, 23 g of fat and 880 mg of sodium. Avoid the Triple Whopper with mayo and cheese, which has more than 1,250 calories, 84 g of fat and 1,600 mg of sodium.
- While cheese adds some calcium to your sandwich, it will also add 9 g fat and not much flavor. It is best left off your burger.
- The Tendergrill Chicken Garden Salad (220 calories, 7 g fat, 1,080 mg sodium) with low-fat or fat-free dressing can be a good selection instead of a sandwich.
- Skip the fries and onion rings. Order the Fresh Apple Fries (25 calories, 0 g fat, 0 mg sodium), a side salad (15 calories, 0 g fat, 0 mg sodium) or a plain Garden Salad (80 calories, 4.5 g fat, 110 mg sodium) to round out your meal.
